As the old saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention, and sometimes it's necessary to invent an entirely new life. And that's what Jody did as an entrepreneur and mother of three: she sized down her antiques and started a business in Galena, Illinois in order to accommodate motherhood. Specifically, single motherhood.
""I'm incredibly fortunate to have cultivated a business that allowed me the flexibility to raise a family on my own."'
-Jody McGill, Vintalogie owner and artisan
With a keen eye for design and a tight budget, she started by refashioning broken, vintage odds and ends found at flea markets, garage sales, and thrift stores. Conveniently during this time, the Internet was born. She taught herself photography and HTML, soon building a thriving online presence working off an old harvest table.
Ultimately, an entire new design style has emerged as she individually handcrafts every piece with antique brass filigree, Czechoslovak crystal, hand-picked fair-trade gems, and a plethora of treasure collected off the side of the road.In short order, her work made its way to Hollywood to the likes of Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, Brea Grant, Christian Siriano, and many more. Anne Heche even graced the red carpet wearing a Jody McGill original!
While she had several bricks-and-mortar, the Internet saves the day, and you can find her jewels and music (yes, she's a singer/songwriter too) indefinitely at vintalogie.com.
